who we are

Dr. Sunil Kalai is the founder of MONDRA (A Social Welfare Society) and it had been his dream since his childhood to work for society and environment. In the year 2018, he contemplated on the idea of the formation of a society. His late father Bipin Chandra Kalai had left behind a certain area of land, and as the youngest of six siblings, he observed that if the land was to be distributed amongst all six of them, a small portion of the land would go to each individual. He never wanted the land of his father to get divided and the idea of division pained him. He proposed converting the property of his father into a trust and once revenue is generated, the members of the community could be employed and each member of the family too owns the share. He shared this idea to his cousins and they believed in him and showed enthusiasm in creating a society. In view of Dr. Kalai, “Being in a white collared job we tend to forget our responsibilities towards the society. I have always believed that one needs to have a vision and it is one’s belief in the vision that can transform the society and empower the community rather than being just educated.”

MONDRA (A Social Welfare Society) is registered under 1860’s Societies Registration Act. The Registrar of Societies, Govt. of Tripura do hereby certify this society under the title, “MONDRA” (A Social Welfare Society) along with the memorandum of Association and rules and regulations filled by the said society and it has been registered on 14th of September 2018.
